SOUND

The last key topic that I want to focus on is how SOUND is incorporated with MUSIC VIDEO’S and how much it might influence a larger audience. The first example that comes to my mind is a Country Group called Florida Georgia Line and their song called Cruise released in August 2012. This MUSIC VIDEO is you normal MUSIC VIDEO that you would expect to go with a country song. Incorporated in the video are trucks, country roads, acoustic guitars, American flags, etc. But something interesting happened in May 2013. Rapper Nelly collaborated with Florida Georgia Line and Created Cruise (Remix) and in this MUSIC VIDEO not only to we hear a different song with different lyrics but the SOUND is completely different as well. The SOUND is more of a Hip-Hop produced song. Florida Georgia Line took a big gamble with this song because they were mixing two completely different genres of music that not a lot of same people listen to on a day-to-day basis. Something interesting that I noticed in the Remix MUSIC VIDEO is the fact that you don’t get a country visual. In the remix the first things that I notice are fast cars mixed with some older more country cars, women showing off their bodies, a different scenery with darker lights and fog, etc. The reason why I believe this is important is because the SOUND of the song completely changed which changes the mood of the MUSIC VIDEO as well.

In an interesting article on Strymon written by Ethan Tufts he mentions, “How do you capture the ideas in your mind? How I interpret the connection of SOUND and image?” (Tufts). Here he is mentioning the fact that there are artists who specifically rely on just SOUND or SOUND with minimal Words when they come out with music so how would they incorporate the SOUND with the MUSIC VIDEO for the listener to get a better understanding of what they are trying to portray. A good example of this would be the artist Skrillex with his song called Summit. This MUSIC VIDEO is based on what Skrillex was trying to express as he was making this song. The SOUNDS that you hear are very melodic and with very minimal lyrics, he had to demonstrate his talent on what he thought was the correct way for his listeners to understand the song better by making a MUSIC VIDEO where from my point of view it looks as if it is just a group of people having fun during the summer time. Overall, SOUND is a very important factor to MUSIC VIDEOS as well because the SOUND could determine the overall influence of the MUSIC VIDEO and what is trying to be shown.
